CORDELE, Ga. – Two Crisp County Sheriff’s Office deputies earn the Governor’s Public Safety Award for their commitment to ensuring the safety of the community.

The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office pleased to announce that Corporal Jack Masters and Deputy Kendall Evans have been awarded with the Act of Heroism Award during the Governor’s Public Safety Awards Ceremony.

The Governor’s Public Safety Awards Program was initiated in 1998 in order to provide an opportunity for the men and women in the public safety family to be recognized for outstanding service to their communities and contribution to their profession.

On October 22, 2022, around 10:30 p.m., Crisp County Dispatch issued an urgent call reporting an active shooter at 16 East Bar and Grill in Cordele, Georgia. Responding promptly, officers from the Cordele Police Department and Crisp County Sheriff’s Office, including Deputy Kendall Evans and Corporal Jack Masters, arrived at the scene.

Faced with multiple patrons injured by gunfire, Evans and Masters, displaying remarkable courage, entered the establishment despite the ongoing threat. Navigating through the chaotic scene, they swiftly gathered crucial information on the shooter, leading to his apprehension mere minutes after the initial shots were fired.

This serves as a testament to the guiding principle of the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office, captured in their motto, “Service Before Self.”
