LIHEAP Cuts Cooling Costs for Low Income Families
CRISP COUNTY, Ga. – The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides federally funded grants to help income-eligible households pay for primary heating and cooling costs. Benefit amounts range from $350 to $810 depending on household size, gross income, and heating source.
LIHEAP provides income-eligible households an annual financial benefit toward their home heating costs through direct payments to home energy suppliers.
Households in which every member is age 65 or older or homebound are given priority and can apply starting in December each year. If funds remain, other income eligible households can apply beginning in January each year.
Potential applicants must call 478-209-0958 to schedule an application appointment or be placed on the LIHEAP waiting list. Applications are taken on a first come, first served basis each year until all funds are exhausted.
A cooling component is sometimes offered in the summer if funding is available.
Note: Only the following counties are currently eligible for this program – Crisp, Dooly, Marion, Schley, Sumter, and Webster Counties.
The following items are required to verify eligibility:

- Verification of Social Security Numbers for all household members
- Verification of all income coming into the household (all members age 18 or older) for the past 30 days
