Albany Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business Awards
ALBANY, Ga. – Local business leaders gather at the Thronateeska Heritage Center to celebrate innovation and excellence in Albany.
The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual Business Awards, honoring outstanding achievements among local businesses in the Good Life City.
One of this year’s honorees was SoftDev Inc., who was named Small Business of the Year, recognized for its contributions and leadership within the community.
“Well, I grew up in Albany, and so this is home for me. I moved away about 20 years ago, and I ended up starting this company in 1999. So, we’ve been in business for 25 years and we operated out of North Carolina. We’ve operated out of Maryland. But, COVID brought me home,” said Robin Major, President & CEO, SoftDev Inc.
The awards highlight a range of businesses, including nonprofits, women-owned, and veteran-owned organizations, showcasing the variety and strength of the local business community.
Robin Major, President & CEO of SoftDev Inc., opens up about her journey, from starting the business to growing it into the success it is today.
“So, I started the firm just basically being a software developer, contracting myself out to certain businesses and then over time, because of our expertise in certain areas of Medicare and in stage renal disease, we ended up becoming a subject matter expert. From that, we ended up growing into now, a 30 person company with multiple consultants and employees across 14 states. And it’s just unreal to imagine 25 years ago, this is where we would be,” said Major.
Robin reflects on the significance of winning this award, sharing how much it means to her to be recognized not just for her business success, but to receive the honor right here in her hometown of Albany.
“I’m just so grateful to be in Albany and to be a finalist in this category of woman-owned small business and being the recipient of the Small Business of the Year award. It’s just incredible to think that I was able to come home and then be able to do what we do in the city and across the country, be part of this chamber, and to be able to impact the lives that we do through community service and help those that need help the most,” said Major.
