Two Dead, Five Injured in Dougherty County Motor Vehicle Crash

ALBANY, Ga. – Emergency personnel responded at approximately 4:02 p.m. Wednesday to a serious motor vehicle crash in the 2200 block of Wildfair Road in Dougherty County.
The crash involved seven occupants traveling in a 15-passenger van and resulted in two fatalities and five injuries.
Preliminary information indicates all seven occupants were Cuban nationals who were leaving Naomi Plantation, where they had been working.
The two individuals seated in the front of the van were pronounced dead at the scene. The names and ages of the occupants are not available for release at this time.
Four occupants were transported to a local hospital for treatment. One sustained critical injuries, while the injuries of the other three are not believed to be life-threatening. The fifth surviving occupant was able to exit the vehicle with injuries that were not considered serious. Before first responders arrived, he assisted another occupant in getting out of the vehicle.
According to preliminary information gathered at the scene, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. The circumstances leading to the crash remain under investigation.
