Albany to remember Ahmaud Arbery

ALBANY, GA– On Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at 2 p.m. in front of the Government Center at 222 Pine Avenue in downtown Albany, the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners will hold a Proclamation Presentation in recognition of the two- year anniversary of the death of Ahmaud Arbery, and to commemorate the State of Georgia’s recognition of the Georgia athlete.

In the absence of Dougherty County Chairman, Christopher S. Cohilas, the presentation will be led by Commissioner Clinton Johnson, Dougherty County District 3 commissioner, and Vice Chairman for the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners this year. Other County Commissioners will also be present, as well as City Commissioners, who were invited to join the tribute.

“Justice for Ahmaud has come, Justice for all is near, we can never outrun injustice in this world,” said Commissioner Johnson.

State of Georgia Governor Brian Kemp released a State Proclamation recognizing February 23rd as forever to be known annually in the State as The Ahmaud Arbery Day. This Proclamation follows a law that Governor Kemp signed as the Georgia Hate Crime Act.
