DCSS students selected to lead, legislate at 82nd Youth Assembly Conference

November 19, 2025
Matthew Crumley,

ALBANY, Ga. — Civics club members from Dougherty, Monroe, and Westover High Schools will represent the Dougherty County School System at the 82nd Youth Assembly Conference, taking place November 30–December 2.

During the three-day event, students will step into the roles of lawmakers in the U.S. Congress and Georgia General Assembly, as well as lobbyists and media representatives. They will debate issues, defend legislation, and collaborate with peers from across the state.

Three student-authored bills—two from Dougherty Comprehensive High School and one from Westover Comprehensive High School—were selected for publication in the official 82nd Bill Book. These students and their teams will present and defend their legislation with the goal of seeing it enacted into Youth Assembly law.

In addition, DCHS student Christian Hernandez has been selected for a prestigious conference leadership position, serving as a U.S. Senate Committee Chair and MCHS student Autumn Reese was selected to serve as Senate Reading Clerk.

The Dougherty County School System congratulates these outstanding students and their advisors for their dedication, civic engagement, and academic excellence as they prepare to represent the district on a statewide stage.
