City of Albany launches Water System Valve Exercising Program

ALBANY, Ga. – As part of its ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and reliable water system, the City of Albany will begin a Water System Valve Exercising Program on Monday, November 10, 2025. This initiative is a key component of the City’s preventative maintenance strategy and will continue for several months or until completion.

City crews will systematically inspect and operate water valves throughout the community. This process helps ensure that valves are functioning correctly, improves system performance, and enhances the City’s ability to respond quickly to emergencies such as water main breaks or service disruptions.

Initial Work Areas:

Crews will begin this program in Ward 3 and Ward 6. Additional areas will be addressed as the program progresses.

Why Preventive Maintenance Matters:

Regular valve exercising extends the life of the water system infrastructure, reduces the risk of unexpected failures, and supports the delivery of high-quality water to residents and businesses.

What to Expect: During this process, you may notice temporary discoloration of your water. This is a normal result of the maintenance work and does not pose a health risk.

If you experience discolored water:

  •  Run your cold-water faucet for a few minutes.
  • If the discoloration persists, please get in touch with the Albany Utilities at 229.883.8330.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to upgrade key components of our water distribution infrastructure, which enables us to maintain high service delivery standards.
