Meet Albany’s new city manager Terrell Jacobs

ALBANY, Ga. – On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, the Albany city commission officially announced Terrell Jacobs as their selection for the city manager position.

“You know, I am just being honest, when people say Albany out in the state, people, they go crime, you know, poverty, I feel that Albany is more than just what the stats make show. See, it has a rich history. The civil rights movement. It was there to some degree. A lot of great people have originated from Albany. And, just the uniqueness of the community,” said Terrell Jacobs, appointed Albany city manager.

Jacobs spoke about his previous experience and how it has prepared him for his new role.

“I’ve been in local government probably getting close to 31, 32 years. You know, give or take. I’ve worked in a lot of different capacities throughout my career. I started off working at a regional commission. And, then, elevated up to H.R. And, then, took on finance director and then became assistant city manager and was over I.T., finance, and human resources. Then, I got my first opportunity to be a city manager at a place called Union City. That’s near metro Atlanta near the airport,” said Jacobs.

Jacobs discusses the key issues he intends to address as he steps into this new role.

“One of our commissioners, you know, talks about poverty and homelessness and issues. That is a large issue. And, I’m really passionate about that because we can help lead some of these initiatives. We need social services to all put our heads together to figure out how we can help address some of the issues,” said Jacobs.

He goes on to explain the significance behind Albany’s nickname, “the Good Life City.”

“The Good Life City. What does that mean to us that we will be living in Albany? Well, that means to have some type of life that you can feel comfortable with, that you can feel safe with, that you can feel that you have the ability to to own a home or rent, have a livable wage. And, that you feel that the life that you’re living in Albany is good,” said Jacobs.
