American Red Cross Blood Drive at Cordele Community Clubhouse in memory of Jack Windham

August 6, 2024
Matthew Crumley,

CORDELE, Ga. – The spirit of giving is alive and well in Cordele as the community gather for a vital blood drive.

The American Red Cross held its monthly blood drive at the Cordele Community Clubhouse, providing residents with the opportunity to donate.

“Well, we do these blood drives here in Cordele once a month, and Mr. Jack Windham actually got these blood drives started about 30 years ago, and he recently passed away. So, in his memory, we wanted to do this blood drive today. Just so that we could acknowledge all of his hard work and his dedication to volunteering for the Red Cross,” said Tammy Bearden, American Red Cross Blood Services Account Manager.

Tammy Bearden, Blood Services Account Manager for the American Red Cross, highlighted the legacy of Jack Windham, a dedicated humanitarian and long-time supporter of the organization.

“He started out in disaster services helping if there were shelter needs set up during storms. And, then he started hosting blood drives. And, it’s neat to know that he hosted blood drives once a month. You can donate blood every 56 days, but he was intent that he was going to have a blood drive every month so that donors can be giving on a regular basis,” said Bearden.

The American Red Cross hosts these blood drives at the Cordele Community Clubhouse at least once a month to support the community’s healthcare needs.

“Every 2 to 3 seconds, someone needs blood. So, it’s very important for trauma patients, transfusion patients. Cancer patients use about 25% of our blood supply. So, people actually forget how important donation is. We can’t buy it. It always has to come from donors,” said Bearden.
