Peach State Health Plan holds second annual Back-to-School Bash and Resource Fair

ALBANY, Ga. – The Peach State Health Plan provides the youth of Albany with health services, education resources, and school supplies.

In collaboration with former professional football player and ESPN analyst, Harry Douglas, the Peach State Health Plan hosted the second annual Back-to-School Bash and Resource Fair over the weekend.

“So, this year is our second annual Back to School Bash. We were really excited about this year. Last year was a great success. This year we made it even bigger and better from last year. So, this year we have a lot of great resources from free supplies, we have free hygiene resources. You name it, we have it here for our families in the community. So, we’re very excited about this year. Because, it is bigger and better. We have more vendors,” said Tameeka Daniels, Community Relations Representative.

Attendees enjoyed food, games, door prizes, and the opportunity to interact with more than 25 community vendors.

We spoke with present vendors who shared insights on the importance of providing valuable resources to the community.

“There is a need in the community and we don’t want any child to be left behind or not have the necessary things that they need in the community. So, it’s a good thing to be able to give back to make sure if we have, we want to make sure that everyone has in the community. So, these types of events are very important to make sure that all of the children have exactly what they need and to help the parents,” said Tracy Mallory, President, Women On a Mission of Albany.

“I think the opportunity for Women On a Mission of Albany to be able to be here today definitely signifies who we are as a unit. We have ladies of all different backgrounds; there are nurses, accountants, and teachers. And, I think as mothers, sometimes we struggle and we don’t know what to do or where to get those resources from. I was a single mother with two kids, raising them alone. Tracy was a single mother with kids, raising them alone. The resources that we were able to get came from our church and other communities. So, that’s why we’re here. We want to be able to do that for other people as well, said Irish Wimbush, Vice President, Women On a Mission of Albany.

“So, Helping Mamas is a premiere diaper bank and other essential items. We essentially elevate the well-being of women and children by supplying these items. And, then we harness the power of community support so that our families can thrive. So, the reason why it was important to come here today is because you know, Peach State is one of our partners, but also because we know that Peach State brings a great turnout and so we wanted to support this great program, as well as serving the community, said Patrice Williams, Director of Engagement, Helping Mamas.

The Peach State Health Plan continues to support Georgians in living healthier lives through innovative healthcare solutions.

“As you know, going back to school can be a very, very expensive time for families, especially our families that may have more than one child. And, so, we wanted to make sure that we provided this opportunity so that we can have vendors to come in from around our community and serve our families by providing some of those needs that will help them in their families,” said Daniels.
