Albany Recreation and Parks Department offers complimentary health and wellness memberships

ALBANY, Ga. – Albany Recreation and Parks Department (ARPD) does its due diligence to ensure that the health and wellness needs of residents are fulfilled.

The ARPD provides complimentary memberships to the J.C. Odom Jr. Health and Wellness Center for residents of the Good Life City.

“This is a city of Albany facility, so your taxpayer pays for the facility. So, we’re asking everyone to come out that they would like to do line dancing, free weights, they even have a weightlifting group that come out so it’s free to the public and you can just come in 6:30 to 1:00 or 4:00 to 7:00 and come out and do your workout. We have elliptical machines. All types of machines. The same thing that you get in your regular gym that you would pay a membership. We have it all at J.C. Odom Fitness and Wellness Center,” said Velvet Poole, ARPD Community Events Superintendent.

The J.C. Odom Jr. Health and Wellness Center offers residents a diverse range of resources, including circuit training, full body workout programs, and a community garden for growing nutritious, healthy food.

Velvet Poole, the Community Events Superintendent for the Albany Recreation & Parks Department, provides further details on the available resources.

“We have line dancing on Wednesday and Fridays at 11:00 to 12:00. So, take your lunch break and come down. And, also we have showers that you can use before you go back to work. We have a master gardener, Miss Linda Harris on our staff. And, when you get a chance, come out. She’s looking for people to join her garden club. We have several gardens around Albany and we’re looking for people to come out of help and have a healthy lifestyle,” said Poole.

Individuals interested in registering for a free membership are encouraged to contact the Albany Recreation & Parks Department.

“Our main goals are safety, education, building character and a healthy lifestyle. So, you need to know anything about of those activities, please call 229-430-5222. Or you can go to our Rec Desk, which is arpd.recdesk.com and register for any of our programs,” said Poole.
