Tifton holds Memorial Day tribute ceremony

TIFTON, Ga. – In a heartfelt display of patriotism and community spirit, the city of Tifton honors this nation’s fallen heroes.

Under a clear blue sky, Tifton’s Jack Stone Veterans Memorial Park became a place of reverence and remembrance as the community gathered for a Memorial Day tribute.

“We have a local citizen gentleman by the name of Jack Stone, who is a veteran who has worked many, many years to make sure that our veterans are always remembered and always honored. As a matter of fact, the park that we’re standing in now, we’ve named in his honor the Jack Stone Veterans Memorial Park. And, he actually put this park together through donations, through volunteers, through local military organizations such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion and various others. So, to have a place where we can come and gather to honor our veterans is such an important part of these celebrations,” said Mayor Julie Smith, City of Tifton.

The tribute featured moving speeches from prominent Tifton figures and the presentation of memorials honoring those who lost their lives in the fight for freedom. Local veterans in attendance were also recognized during the tribute.

Mayor Julie Smith highlights the importance of honoring these individuals on Memorial Day.

“Being here today on Memorial Day, when we remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice so that we can be free, so that we can vote, we can work, we can worship how we see fit. It’s so important, they gave everything. And, so, to take just a few minutes out of this day, this special day, to remember those and to honor them is just something that’s incredibly important. It’s something we should do every day because we do live in a country in a nation that’s free. And, we have so many privileges and so many things that we have been given that other countries don’t have. And, so, that freedom is so very important. So, honoring our fallen veterans on Memorial Day is the least that we can do,” said Mayor Smith.

Mayor Julie Smith and the city of Tifton deliver a heartfelt message, emphasizing the deep respect and gratitude the community holds for the sacrifices of fallen heroes.

“I would just say thank you. And, please know that this nation loves you and appreciates you. And, we pray for those families, for loss that they suffer is immeasurable. It’s unimaginable. I can’t, I just can’t fathom what sacrifices that they make. But, please know that we thank you and we appreciate you and we respect you and we honor you this day,” said Mayor Smith.
