Lee Co. Animal Shelter holds adoption day event for National Pet Week

LEESBURG, Ga. – Lee County Animal Shelter is marking National Pet Week with a celebration of furry friends and companionship.

The shelter, located in Albany, is eagerly preparing for its upcoming adoption day event, schedules for Saturday, May 11th. This event pledges to offer a variety of resources for both citizens and their beloved pets.

“We’re hoping for the community to come out. We’re going to have quite a few K-9 Units that’re going to come out, show the community what the canines offer the community, what they can do, different divisions, different talents that the dog has. We’re going to have vendors out here from the pet store. We’re going to have vets out here to offer the community information. It is national pet week, so any knowledge and wisdom that we can possibly give the community pertaining to their own personal pet, that’s what we’re hoping to do,” said Dana Mathis, Lee County Animal Shelter, Lead Kennel Tech.

From adoption opportunities to various services and amenities, attendees can expect a valuable and enjoyable experience aimed at promoting pet welfare and community engagement.

Dana Mathis, Lead Kennel Tech at the Lee County Animal Shelter, sheds light on the local organizations that have played a crucial role in the upcoming adoption event. Additionally, Mathis provides valuable information about adoption prices for the shelter’s furry friends, offering insights that could be beneficial for potential adopters.

“Publix supermarket has donated bakery goods for us. So, we’ll have snacks. We’ll have water. We’ll have juice for the kids. We’re going to have an ice cream truck, just we’re going to have a lot of fun just hanging out and helping each other with information pertaining to the pets. The adoption fees are $43.33 for female dogs. Male dogs are $40, female cats are $28.33. Male cats are $23.33. Best price there is ever, around,” said Mathis.

Dana Mathis encourages pet owners to dedicate time to cherish moments with their furry loved ones.

“It is National Pet Week, we’re asking everybody to take time, with their busy schedule, going to work, coming home, the pets are often the ones on the back burner that don’t get the special attention this week. Take the dog for an extra walk. Get out, throw the ball a little more. The animals here, none of them asked to be here. They just want a loving home. They want someone to take them in, care for them and let them give the love to them that they deserve,” said Mathis.
