ALBANY, Ga. – The city of Albany is gearing up for a day filled with discovery and connection with the upcoming ‘Meet Your City’ event.
This event is designed to provide residents with an immersive experience showcasing the many services, initiatives, and opportunities available in Albany.
‘Meet Your City’ highlights the collaborative effort of city leaders across the Good Life City. Attendees will discover firsthand the resources tailored to enriching their lives within their community.
“Oftentimes, when working with local residents, we are asked the question, well, what does my city do for me? What is this city do for its residents? So, this event was birthed out of a need to make certain that the city of Albany is creating and promoting the narrative of the services and the opportunities and the resources that are available to residents right here in the Good Life City of Albany, Georgia,” said Orson Burton Jr., DCED Public Service Manager.
Orson Burton Jr., Public Service Manager for the Department of Community Economic Development (DCED) for the city of Albany, provides insight into the notable presence of city leaders at the event.
“So, you should expect to have a wonderful opportunity to meet not only city leadership from elected officials, our mayor will be here, city commissioners will be here, but also the government business side of the city. You will have our interim city manager here, assistant city manager here, leadership here, department heads and department directors here. All ready to engage with residents around the services, opportunities and activities that we offer,” said Burton.
In addition to the various engaging activities for residents, the upcoming event will also include job opportunities.
“And, one department we will have is the human resources. They will be taking applications straight off the street, out of the communities coming to apply for jobs that we have vacant. I think we have almost a hundred vacancies within the city where you will have not only opportunity to apply, but we’re going to be conducting onsite interviews as well so you can bring your resumes. You have an opportunity to engage and not just looking for a job, but their career opportunities within the city of Albany that you can have as a resource to build your family, your lifestyle on,” said Burton.
The city of Albany hope to spark a sense of excitement and curiosity among residents to discover the gems hidden within their own backyard.
“So, this is an incredible opportunity to learn to be engaged, to try to create informed communities, right? So, the idea is if we can create informed communities, then collectively we can create the community that we all deserve and hope for in our future,” said Burton.
