Dougherty County Public Library celebrates National Library Week

ALBANY, Ga. – Honoring the heart of written word and the home of pages of literature… the Dougherty County Public Library celebrates National Library Week.

Embracing the theme ‘Ready, Set, Library’ for this year’s National Library Week, Gail Evans, Director of the Dougherty County Public Library, extends a warm invitation to the community to explore the wealth of resources available at the library, highlighting its role as a vital hub for learning, exploration, and community engagement.

Sarah Shelton, Senior Branch Manager of the Northwest Library, offers insight into the wealth of resources accessible to patrons.

“Library cards are available to anyone that lives in the state of Georgia and we do have to have a photo ID with your current mailing address. And, whenever you receive this library card, you will receive access to all kinds of great resources that are available to you through the library. The library offers a lot of great resources that citizens can utilize. We have everything from books, audio-books, e-books, electronic resources that help you study for classes such as tutor.com. If you need to do research, we have Galileo. We also have other resources that you can utilize in person, such as study rooms, genealogy resources, things of that nature,” said Sarah Shelton, Senior Branch of Northwest Library.

Each day the dedicated team at the Dougherty County Public Library exemplifies their commitment to enhancing the community by fostering a culture of lifelong learning.

Gail Evans and Sarah Shelton emphasize the importance of the library staff, praising their unwavering dedication to connecting individuals with invaluable resources.

This includes providing access to the newest literary releases, offering computer classes, and assisting students with their academics.

“We do a lot of different stuff behind the scenes. We do everything from checking the book-drop, we check in & out books. We also send books to other libraries, and we have to make sure things are shelf and in the correct order that they’re supposed to be so they can be located. Our staff here are great. We have the best team here and we will not be able to do half of the things that we do if it wasn’t for them. I have a great staff here and I’m very thankful for them,” said Shelton.

For those interested in staying informed about the various activities hosted by the Dougherty County Public Library, access to a comprehensive calendar is readily available. You can obtain a copy at the front desk of any library location or conveniently access it digitally through the library’s Facebook page.
