Phoebe Foundation’s Ribbon Walk to take place this weekend to raise money for Phoebe’s Cancer Center
ALBANY, Ga. – A major fundraiser aimed towards helping Phoebe’s Cancer Center is taking place this weekend. And, the Phoebe Foundation is treating it as a celebration of life.
The event in question is Phoebe’s second annual Ribbon Walk…
Dedicated to people affected by cancer of any kind.
And, an event that’s actually been running for well over a decade.
“So, in 2012, the Albany Pink Walk was founded, and this is our 2nd Ribbon Walk. We transitioned Albany Pink into the Ribbon Walk. Both walks raise money for cancer, but the Ribbon Walk is a celebration for (people affected by) all types of cancer, not just breast cancer,” said Parker Douglas, Interim Dir. Phoebe Foundation.
And, for everyone involved in the Ribbon Walk, it’s to celebrate anyone who has had their life affected by cancer.
“The Ribbon Walk is a celebration walk of survivorship. It is a celebration and an honoring of those who have gone through cancer, cancer treatments, and also for our cancer caregivers. So, this is a celebration walk around our Meredyth location, and it raises money for Phoebe’s Cancer Center,” said Douglas.
With the celebration being on everyone who has been affected by cancer, Saturday promises to be an important day for participants…
As the ribbon walk brings out a lot of emotion in participants.
“So, to be able to walk for a family member you’ve lost for instance, and remember them, honor them, and help ensure that their legacy is not lost is a wonderful thing. It’s an emotional event. It’s a beautiful event. But, it’s also a very fun event,” said Douglas.
Parker tells us for the people who’ve been picking up their packets throughout the week, it’s been an emotional experience, and that will continue Saturday.
The Ribbon Walk will take place at 2709 Meredyth Drive this Saturday, starting at 8 a.m.
