Dougherty Co. Public Library hosts “Community Heroes Storytime”

ALBANY, Ga. – In honor of National Reading Month, the Dougherty County Public Library showed gratitude to the unsung heroes within its community.

The library hosts the “Community Heroes Storytime” welcoming members of the community as guest readers at various branches. These honored guests will captivate audiences with inspiring and creative narratives, strengthening the bond between heroes and their admirers.

“I’m sure you have heard of “Read Across America.” It is something that’s done with Dr. Seuss usually, and that is celebrated at the beginning of the month. Here in Dougherty county we decided, why not celebrate the whole entire month? So, we have asked local community leaders to come to our branches and read to children. They might talk a little bit about the job they hold or it might be something that they do for the community or things of that nature,” said Sarah Shelton, Senior Branch Manager, Northwest Library.

Sarah Shelton, Senior Branch Manager of the Northwest Library location, emphasizes the significance of commemorating our community heroes and the vital role play in shaping the community.

“We are very thankful for our community leaders and everything they do for us. They are just one reason why the city of Albany in the county of Dougherty county is just such a great place to live. And, we really are thankful for them and everything they do for us in our community,” said Shelton.

Shelton also highlights the events and programs the Dougherty County Public Library have in store.

“We have events and programs going on for all ages. We have knitting and crocheting classes that happen on most Tuesdays and Thursdays. We also have events for children. We have craft time. We will be having these community storytimes on most Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m., and we do have one or two happening on Fridays as well. But we do have a calendar that can be picked up at the front desk of the library where you can go to our Facebook page and see it there as well,” said Shelton.
