Healthy Lifestyle and Smart Decisions Youth Summit held at Lockett Crossing Community Center

ALBANY, Ga. – Promoting a vibrant and informed youth community, the “Healthy Lifestyle and Smart Decisions Youth Summit” unfolded today at the Lockett Station Community Center in Albany.

Tailored for participants between the ages of 13 and 18 years, this empowering event featured dynamic sessions delving into critical topics including social media awareness, leadership development, cultivating a healthy lifestyle, stress management, and more.

Attendees not only had the opportunity to enrich their knowledge but also enjoyed a provided lunch and engaged in a variety of interactive activities.

The extensive program sought to empower young individuals with valuable skills and knowledge that reach beyond academic boundaries, actively contributing to their personal and social development.

“Today, on MLKing Day, we celebrate by hosting a youth summit focused on healthy lifestyles and smart decisions. We’ve brought in some incredible speakers who covered important topics such as social media and leadership development. We also had engaging team-building activities. It’s been a great time so far,” said Dr. Earnest Brown, Manager, Albany Recreation and Parks Dept.

“Today, the kids are off because of ML King Day, and we wanted them to engage in something constructive. That’s why I organized this youth summit. We have about 75 kids participating, and it’s been fantastic. We’ve covered a wide range of sessions, and right now, they’re eagerly waiting for lunch,” said Brown.

“A youth summit provides the community with an opportunity to invest in our students. I hope that the knowledge we share with them will help them become better citizens and adults. For example, I spoke to them about the dangers of social media. We all know how big social media is for students, including myself. But we must also address how it can impact mental health, the issue of cyberbullying, and the potential consequences it can have on scholarships or job prospects. By providing this information at an early age, we can empower students to become productive citizens,” said Dr. O’ Tessa N Pelham, speaker.

“Our goal is to provide community activities and information to our young people. We want to empower and uplift our youth because they are the future. By investing in them, we can ensure their success and the success of our community,” said Stephanie Hill, the President of Youth United.
