The Good Life City Holiday Classic tips off Monday
ALBANY, Ga. – Monday is the beginning of a three day long event in downtown Albany for middle school basketball teams across the area.
CBS 44’s Brian Roche tells us why the Flint River Entertainment Complex is looking forward to hosting it.
Monday starts the Good Life City Holiday Classic here at the Albany Civic Center. And, the Flint River Entertainment Complex is looking forward to showing southwest Georgia the best Albany has to offer in more ways than one.
Complex General Manager, Victor Landry says the Holiday Classic is providing a brand new opportunity for middle school students across the area and from as far north as Macon.
“We’re excited about giving these middle schoolers the opportunity to compete in an event of this size at this level. Most of these students will never get the chance to play in a huge arena, and we’re excited about giving them the opportunity to compete with their fans, friends and family here…” said Victor Landry, General Manager, Flint River Entertainment Complex.
Landry says that they’re planning to make it a huge deal with additional entertainment aspects as well…
With a couple of surprises to boot according to Landry.
“…So, creating this opportunity for family friendly entertainment, we’re going to have a huge fan engagement segment, getting the fans involved, we’re going to have music. And, I hear we’re going to have a celebrity host, I hear. So, we’re excited about the fans being able to experience that here in the city,” said Landry.
And, on top of that, the Holiday Classic will be a chance to show off many of the businesses partnered with the Entertainment Complex.
They’re looking for local businesses to get involved with the Holiday Classic in order to help and get promoted in return.
“We want to get the business community involved. We want the entire City of Albany to have their mark on this middle school tournament, and show our students we care about them, and we’re excited to see them compete on this level,” said Landry.
With tip off only a couple of days away, it’s a great chance for the city’s businesses to come together before the end of the year.
The three-day tournament will feature boys and girls teams From Albany, Lee County, Terrell County, Tift County, Sumter County, and many other schools…
We’re excited for it, and so is Albany Recreation and Parks Director Steven Belk…
The Holiday Classic begins Monday the 18th at 10 a.m.
