Worth Co. Sheriff’s Office groundbreaking on renovation of detention center

SYLVESTER, Ga. – We now move over to Worth County where the sheriff’s office got a major upgrade.

Community leaders came together to help formally break ground on the new Worth County Jail.

The new facility will replace the current jail with modern standards, as well as serve as a new central location for the Worth County Sheriff’s Office.

We spoke with Sheriff Don Whitaker about the impact.

“But, it’s going to cut down on our transport time. It’s going to cut down on the farming out inmates to other counties. It’s going to help the city here. They won’t have to transport their inmates to another county to house them. It’s just going to help in so many ways and save us money. But I think it’s something that the can is going to be proud of. I really am,” said Sheriff Don Whitaker, Worth Co. Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Whitaker also says the rough estimate timeline for the new jail is around 24 months.
