“…”Jankers?” I don’t know what “jankers” is. I never heard of that word. Have you ever heard someone say, “I’m going to put on my “jankers” right now?” Never heard of that. So, I just spelt it how I heard it. Because in fourth grade and fifth grade, I just went straight for the word. And, I messed up on a lot of stuff, because like in fifth grade, I spoke “cavern” with a “k.” I made a vow for myself to never do that again,” said Shayla Giang, Winner, 2024 Colquitt Co. District Spelling Bee.

Expressing gratitude, Shayla extends her thanks to family, friends, and teacher whose support has played a crucial role in propelling her to this milestone.

“I would like to thank Ms. Joyner, my ILA teacher. She’s helped me a lot and encouraged me a lot. I like to thank my mom, who’s at home right now. And, I’d like to thank my friends, Emily and Alia, because they encourage me a lot, even though they call me nerd a lot. It’s a compliment,” said Giang.
