Albany, GA – The City of Albany is wrapping downtown in twinkling lights and holiday cheer for the 35th Annual Celebration of Lights, taking place Saturday, December 6, 2025! This beloved community tradition returns with music, magic, and memories, as families gather to celebrate the warmth of the season under the glow of the Christmas Tree and the sparkle of parade lights.
Below is a list of important dates and information you need to know about this year’s event.
- This Year’s Theme:
o Home for the Holidays: Honoring Our Heroes
- This year’s theme celebrates the true heroes among us — those who have served, inspired, and uplifted our community. It’s a heartfelt reminder that home is not just a place, but the people who make it shine.
- Honorees:
o This year’s tree lighting ceremony will be held in honor and memory of two
remarkable community leaders whose legacies continue to illuminate the hearts of
many.
- The Late Commissioner Demetrius Young – Remembered for his unwavering commitment to public service and his love for the people of Albany.
- Dr. John W. Culbreath, Ed.D. – Celebrated for his lifetime of leadership, education, and kindness that shaped countless lives throughout our community.
o Their names will forever be part of the Celebration of Lights story — shining
brightly as symbols of service, compassion, and community pride.
- Event Schedule:
o Christmas Village: 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
o Live Entertainment: 4:45 p.m. – 5:45 p.m.
o Tree Lighting Ceremony: 5:45 p.m.
o Christmas Parade: 6:00 p.m.
- Locations:
o Christmas Village: North Jackson Street (from Pine Avenue to Broad Avenue).
o Opening Performances: Pine Avenue between the Government Center (222
Pine Avenue) and the Judicial Building (225 Pine Avenue).
o Parade Route: Begins at Wesco (724 Pine Avenue) and continues to the
Dougherty County School System Building (200 Pine Avenue).

“The Celebration of Lights is one of Albany’s most cherished traditions,” said Lequrica Gaskins,
the Downtown Manager for the City of Albany.
“Each year, this event brings together families, friends, and visitors to experience the wonder
of the season right in the heart of our city. From the dazzling parade and the lighting of the
Christmas tree to the lively Christmas Village filled with local vendors, there’s something for
everyone to enjoy,” Gaskins continued. “It’s a night where downtown sparkles with joy, unity,
and holiday spirit—and we’re thrilled to celebrate 35 years of this magical tradition.”
“So, bundle up, bring the kids, and make plans to join us downtown on Saturday, December 6
for an evening filled with lights, laughter, and memories that will last all season long,” said
