Westwood Schools fundraiser for hurricane victims
CAMILLA, Ga. – No uniforms were required yesterday at Westwood Schools!
Most students and staff opted to donate $2 dollars to wear what they wanted to, including hats, sandals, and any t-shirts or pants they liked.
The funds raised will go towards assisting those impacted by Hurricane Helene through Samaritan’s Purse.
“We recognize and realize that it should have been us that was hit by the hurricane. And, it did shift. So, it has affected our neighbors. And, we get to be clasped hands and feet and put to work, put our money to work, to serve others,” said Holly Ray, Teacher, Westwood High School.
Students were thrilled to wear whatever they wanted for the day, expressing their individuality outside of school.
But… also to understand the importance of giving back, recognizing the impact of natural disasters from past experiences, even at their young age.
“It’s the least we can do. With Hurricane Michael, a lot of us had house damage and trees down, but that wasn’t as bad, especially with our experience. And, it’s really scary. And, knowing that we can just give them a little bit of money to at least get them food and water,” said Abby Griner, Landry Powell, Students, Westwood.
And… that’s not the only thing they’re collecting for donations… They are also gathering supplies for hurricane relief efforts.
Items such as toiletries, non-perishable food, and clothing are being accepted to help those in need. Every contribution counts, showing that the community stands together during tough times.
