Westwood Head Varsity Basketball Coach inducted into LaGrange Academy High School Hall of Fame

This Westwood basketball head coach just got inducted to the Hall of Fame for his time as a player in high school.
Coach Fries has earned the honor of being part of the inaugural class inducted into the LaGrange Academy High School Hall of Fame.
During his time at LaGrange Academy, he achieved remarkable success, earning spots on multiple all-region, all-state, and all-county first teams in basketball, baseball, and soccer.
“Yeah, like I said, it was very humbling. I got a phone call from my high school coach, telling me about it and congratulating me, and just made me sit back and think of, you know, all the time that we spent, all the practices and all the games, all the sacrifices that we made. You know, to play all the commitment levels that we had to, to play each sport. And, it was just something that was just really special. Really special,” said Eugene Fries, Assistant Headmaster, Athletic Director, Head Varsity Basketball Coach – Boys & Girls.
His high school coach, Charles Parker, described him as “one of the best multi-sport athletes to ever attend LaGrange Academy.”
His passion for sports remains unwavering. He currently serves as the athletic director at Westwood, where he also coaches basketball and assists with the softball team.
“When I was playing in high school, I always thought, you know, when my playing days were over, that I was, I would be a coach. I had a great high school coach who influenced me tremendously and helped guide me to where I am now. My parents, we’re a big part of that. And they were very involved in athletics as well. And, so, I just kind of knew that this is what I was going to do and come. You know, my 29th year now, in coaching and, being here at Westwood the last three years, you know, we’re, we’re building this, this program back to, to where it used to be. And, the commitment level here is just really, really strong. And, you know, it’s a joy to come to, to come to work every day and, and to see these kids get better,” said Fries.
The Hall of Fame ceremony will take place at halftime of the Varsity Boys Basketball Game when Westwood plays LaGrange Academy on Friday, December 13th at LaGrange Academy.
