Westwood baseball player signs with Kennesaw State

CAMILLA, Ga. – Turning to Camilla, let’s go to Westwood High School where one Wildcats baseball player would sign his letter of intent to play at the next level…

Sam Summerlin was Allstate in Georgia for the past 2 years in baseball, and he had every reason to be…

In just his junior year, the catcher would have a .596 on base percentage and drove in 22 runs while also knocking out two homers…

This is clearly a player the Owls could use for their roster, which is one of the reasons why Summerlin chose to sign with the team, despite receiving offers from Liberty and Tulane…

“There’s always that kind of fear. You know, you never know exactly what’s going to happen. Hey, is my scholarship going to go away? Hey, is this going to happen? Is this going to happen? So, I’m getting the papers this morning and signing them. And, finally getting this over with is a sigh of relief. I can honestly say, it gives me confidence. It lets me know that I can take on the world up there. You know what I mean? Specifically, I have a really good chance to play coming in as a freshman, whereas at other schools I would have to sit for a year or two. And, the coaching staff at Kennesaw is absolutely phenomenal. They are everything I could look for in a coaching staff. And, then they have a philosophy. They teach a philosophy at Kennesaw that I really aligned with, and I really got on board with,” said Sam Summerlin, Kennesaw State signee.

But… it’s not just about baseball for the rising senior…

Summerlin’s coaches and teammates all gave speeches about his leadership and character both on and off the field…qualities the Owls were looking for as well…

But… Summerlin isn’t done being a leader yet, as he will play his senior season at Westwood in the Spring before packing his bags for college…

Congratulations to Sam!
