Westover High School student wins second place in Law Day art contest
ALBANY, Ga. – Brilynn Bowling, a junior at Westover High School, received recognition for her exceptional achievement in the 2024 Law Day Art Contest, where she emerged as one of the top contestants among hundreds of participants in the state.
Judge Leisa Blount of the Probate Court of Dougherty County awarded Brilynn Bowling second place for her outstanding art skills. Brilynn’s piece, titled “Voices of Democracy,” carries a profound message that she hopes to share with the world.
“It is definitely an honor. I submitted it initially and I wasn’t too focused on winning, but just more so knowing that now, my art could be out there and possibly spark something. I’m just so grateful, so thankful… all Glory be to God. You know, it’s just amazing to me. I knew that I wanted something unique and something that meant something to me. Being, you know, a black girl in America, you don’t really grow up with that representation, you know, in the media of, you know, yourself in government. I knew that’s something that I wanted to include in my piece. With the chalk, I wanted to be different, something that you can feel. You see a lot of paintings, you see a lot of work that is done with pencil, but chalk, you don’t really see a lot of that. That just represents the uniqueness of that piece of me as a person and what I was trying to convey. To my young black girls and boys, if you’re watching this right now, know that you can do it. Know that your authenticity is very powerful and know being yourself and being true to yourself will get you everywhere you need to be in life,” said Brilynn Bowling, Junior, Westover High School, 2nd place winner, 2024 Law Day Art Contest.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to both Brylin and Benjamin Wright Jr. on their remarkable achievements. Benjamin, a student at Monroe High School, was honored on May 1st for securing the first-place position in this statewide competition. Well done to both Brylin and Benjamin for their outstanding accomplishments!
