Wanted unregistered McIntosh Co. sex offender arrested in Coffee Co.

DOUGLAS, Ga. – During an inmate transportation Tuesday evening, 57-year-old Stephen Jackson, was recognized as a wanted unregistered sex offender by a McIntosh county officer.

Jackson was convicted as a sex offender in December of 2019, and admitted to living in Coffee County for a couple of years.

By Georgia law, registered sex offenders must stay 1,000 feet from any childcare facility, and must register with the sheriff of a county 72 hours before relocating, which Jackson failed to do.

Jackson faces charges for violating the proximity law, and failure to register. Both can give him a sentence of up to 30 years in prison.
