VSU holds its annual Music Mayhem festival

Music Mayhem festival

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Music Mayhem festival is a huge deal around Valdosta State University, as it tends to signal the end of spring semester and the start of summer break. So, with the event happening tonight, I decided to take a quick look at the history of the event, as well as its features and attractions.

The first evidence that can be found of VSU’s resident festival is 2017, and it has been a relatively annual event ever since.

The event was canceled in 2020 and 2021, what with the global pandemic raging and all. But, it made a successful return in 2022. Now, with the event being moved indoors this year due to inclement weather, the event’s history seems to be dripping in adjustments and necessary flexibility.

While the title implies tons of music, there are plenty of other features to the event. Carnival rides are available, although that will unfortunately not be the case this year. Plus, concession stands offer students free food and non-students a selection of choices, ranging from hamburgers and hot dogs to turkey legs and cookie ice cream sandwiches.

The highlight of the event is the musical line-up, which always features winners from the school’s talent show, as well as various bands from the local area. This year, those in attendance will be treated to the musical stylings of Soul Machine, James Tucker, Bachaco, and DJ Will5G.

Finally, I’d be remiss if I failed to mention the traditional ending to Music Mayhem: the Paint Party.

Once the event is nearing its conclusion, the students in the crowd will be showered in neon colored liquids, creating an almost rave-like atmosphere that serves as a fitting end to a wonderful experience.

So, if you’re in the Valdosta area and looking for something to do tonight, hurry over to the Complex on the VSU campus and experience the Mayhem.
