Victory Tabernacle of Albany preparing for Thanksgiving food giveaway
ALBANY, Ga. – A local Albany church is gearing up for their biggest food giveaway of the year.
At Victory Tabernacle, church members are preparing 400 boxes filled with the Thanksgiving staples, including a turkey just before Thanksgiving.
Victory’s new pastor, Tyler Barrett is excited, after the runaway success the church had with the first Thanksgiving giveaway they did last year.
“There is such a great need in our community and we as a church; we believe that we have the hope of Jesus that we can share with our community around us. It is something that helps lift people up. It helps provide a need for need. And, we’re just glad that we can be the hands and feet of Jesus here in Albany,” said Pastor Tyler Barrett, Victory of Albany Tabernacle.
The people of Victory Tabernacle are getting set to hand out these boxes Tuesday morning, and they’re expecting lines to start forming here at the church long before the sun comes up.
And… Pastor Barrett laid out how victory is going to handle the massive crowd Tuesday.
“We’ll open the gates at 8:00 a.m., but people will be lining up probably 5:00, 6:00 in the morning. We’ll have folks out to right in traffic and they’re going to go quickly. It’ll be first come, first serve. So, we just can’t wait to be able to get these food boxes in the hands of those who need it most here in our community,” said Pastor Barrett.
Dougherty county is regularly one of the more food-insecure counties in the State of Georgia…
So… Victory is doing their part to help.
“Those that are going to need it the most are those that are struggling to make ends meet. It’s a way that we can help provide them a good Thanksgiving meal that’s not going to cost anything to them. And, it’s all in the name of Jesus,” said Pastor Barrett.
And… it isn’t just about filling peoples’ stomachs, but giving them something else…
“There’s just a lot of things that we are planning on doing through the church just to give hope to people who are in need,” said Pastor Barrett.
And… that hope is going to make Thanksgiving more special for the 400 families these boxes are going to.
Pastor Barrett says when they do the Thanksgiving box giveaway next year, they’re hoping to double that number to 800 boxes of food.
