Victim identified in homicide investigation in Albany after body discovered inside vehicle

ALBANY, Ga. – According to a news conference, Coroner Michael Fowler has confirmed the identity of the victim in Wednesday’s homicide investigation as 38-year-old Sadarius Lewis.

The Albany Police Department (APD) said the body of Lewis was discovered inside the trunk of a vehicle, a white Hyundai Tucson in the alleyway east of the 2700 block of Joshua Street near a wooded area by a Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) officer.

Coroner Fowler has ruled the homicide investigation as a “suspicious death.”

The cause of death remains unknown and is yet to be determined at this time.

The call came in to coroner’s office around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17.

The registered owner of the car is Latasha Burrison, who was the last person to have contact with Lewis on Monday, December 15 around 6 p.m. when he sent $40 to her via Chime.

Burrison is also reportedly to have been Lewis’ fiancé but she stated that he “is nothing to her anymore” after learning information of his “secret life.”

Officials spoke with Lewis’ cousin Tykessia Johnson, who stated Lewis has been involved in scamming activities, Lewis has had multiple girlfriends and fiancées, and that Johnson and Lewis share a 1-year-old child.

Johnson also spoke about a former girlfriend named Nicole who was seen allegedly pointing a gun at Lewis’ head on Lewis’ phone in a video.

The investigation remains active and ongoing at this time.
