Veterans Day ceremony held at Georgia Veterans State Park

CORDELE, Ga. – Today, we come together to honor our military veterans on Veterans Day, a day dedicated to those who sacrificed for our freedom.

In Cordele, home to Georgia’s only Veterans State Park, a special ceremony was held to show gratitude and pay tribute to these brave service members.

This unique park stands as a symbol of appreciation for all who have served.

“Veterans Day is a time when our entire nation can step back for a moment and think about those who have given their lives in the service of their country, through the military, and about those who have served,” said Elton Shauf, Army Veteran.

The ceremony began with veterans sharing personal stories and reflecting on the importance of the day.

Each brick, dedicated by families, features the names, titles, branches, or years of life of those honored.

This week, new bricks will be added to the monument, making the park even more meaningful.

“While we had the only park in Georgia that honored veterans, we did not have an appropriate monument for veterans. And, we decided in the process to lay bricks purchased by people who wanted to honor someone who had either been a member of the military or who had in some way been connected with the military and had supported the military over the years,” said Shauf.

After the ceremony, attendees enjoyed a special performance by the Flint Flyers Club, who flew their motorized planes, including some modeled after military aircrafts.

Happy Veterans Day to all who serve, and a special shoutout to our own Rodney Washington, a retired army veteran.

He’s a guy who does it all and we’re glad he’s on our team.
