UPDATE: Suspect in custody, GBI requested to assist Tifton Police Department in officer-involved shooting investigation in Tifton

TIFTON, Ga. – UPDATE: The Tifton Police Department, with aid of surrounding law enforcement agencies and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), have successfully apprehended the suspect in relation to the shooting incident that occurred this morning near the 800 Block of Lee Ave.
This situation is now considered under control. Law enforcement personnel remain on the scene, as this situation is an active investigation. GBI will take over the investigation going forward.
The Tifton Police Department (TPD) and multiple surrounding law enforcement agencies are currently responding to a shooting incident near the 800 block of Lee Ave that occurred this morning. This situation is ongoing and this area should be avoided.
This incident occurred in response to TPD’s attempt to execute a search warrant Friday morning.
In an effort to execute the warrant, two TPD Officers were shot and are in stable condition.
The suspect is currently barricaded in a home near the 800 block of Lee Ave.
TPD, along with nearby law enforcement agencies, are working diligently to control the situation.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) assistance has been requested.
G.O. Bailey Elementary School is currently on soft lockdown out of an abundance of caution at this time.
“Please be aware that G.O. Bailey Elementary will remain on soft lockdown until the end of the day. Students will be dismissed at the normal time today. Car pickup will be limited to one lane, so please be patient and anticipate car rider dismissal will be a little delayed today. Buses will be dismissed at their regular times. Parents of students who ride buses and live in the affected neighborhood areas are being contacted directly; if you have not heard directly from the school, anticipate your child’s route home will not be impacted.
