United Way of Southwest Georgia Day of Action partnering with non-profits this Friday
ALBANY, Ga. – The United Way is gearing up for one of their biggest days of the year. Where they’re lending a hand to four major non-profits in the area.
It’s known as the Day of Action, and it’s done worldwide…
But… here in southwest Georgia, Project Lead, Tori Alexander tells us about the groups the United Way of Southwest Georgia’s partnering with this coming Friday.
“…It brings thousands of people in the community out to do service projects for non-profit organizations that otherwise don’t have the manpower to get to it. So, this year for day of action, we have four locations. Our volunteers are going to be going to the Salvation Army, Lily Pad Sane Center, SOWEGA Council on Aging and Feeding the Valley,” said Tori Alexander, Executive Assistant, United Way of Southwest Georgia.
So far they’ve done a great job in getting volunteers to sign up…surpassing their goal.
“So, I right now have registered about 65 individuals. Ranging from teams from Phoebe, Molson Coors, just individuals from local organizations. But, our goal was 50-75 volunteers, so we’re pretty proud of the 65 we have registered,” said Alexander.
And… they’re going to be lending a hand in some major areas…
As they focus on non-profits geared towards helping those dealing with extreme poverty and food insecurity to name a couple.
“…I think it means a lot, I think for a lot of people, it hits close to home. A lot of people who donate and give their time to us, like I said, whether it’s time or money; they have seen themselves in a position of needing better education, food security, our aging homeless, things like that, and they’ve seen it. And so they want to give back in areas where they saw they needed it,” said Alexander.
And… tori is hoping more people will lend a hand to the United Way beyond the Day of Action.
“…You know, I just say that in any way, support the United Way, whether it’s by word of mouth… And reach out and see and learn more of what we do,” said Alexander.
While registration may already be closed, Tori tells us they’ll be accepting walk-ins for the Day of Action at the United Way building on Friday.
If you’re interested in being a walk-in volunteer for Day of Action, you can visit the United Way building on Westover Boulevard, this Friday, June 21st before 8 am.
