Traffic stop leads to drug arrest in Crisp Co.
CORDELE, Ga. – On January 3, 2026, a Crisp County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop on a white Mercedes traveling northbound on Joe Wright Drive after observing a Headlight Requirement violation.
During the stop, the deputy detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver was identified as Johntava Jones. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery and seizure of multiple suspected illegal substances and related items, including MDMA (Ecstasy)pills, Oxycodone pills, Phentermine pills, marijuana totaling approximately 13 grams, a digital scale, and packaging materials.
Jones was taken into custody after briefly resisting instructions but was secured without further incident. Additional evidence, including cash, was also collected.
Johntava Jones, a 37-year-old male from Cordele, GA, was transported to the Crisp County Jail and is charged with:
• Headlights Requirement Violation
• Possession of Marijuana
• Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance
• Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance
• Possession and Use of Drug Related Objects
• Obstructing or Hindering Law Enforcement Officers
