Today’s Weather Authority Forecast: December 21, 2022
Happy Wednesday! The rain from overnight has ended, but roads are still a bit slippery in spots so drive careful as you’re making those last minute holiday errands.
A disturbance on the leading edge of the front brings a chance of showers on Thursday. Then, here comes the Arctic Express! It’s speeding up according to the latest models, which raises the potential for a flash freeze (rapid drop to near freezing) early Friday morning! Watch out for patches of black ice on area roads and bridges! We cannot rule out a few flurries IF there is any precipitation left on the backside of the cold front.
The big story is the dangerously cold temperatures and wind chill readings. A Wind Chill Watch is effective for our northern counties. A Hard Freeze Watch is in effect for much of the rest of SWGA. These will likely be upgraded to advisories and warnings. Lows drop to mid-upper teens Christmas Eve morning with wind chill factors in the single digits to lower teens.
It’ll be the coldest Christmas in years for SWGA! Not since the late 1980’s has it been this cold.
Make preparations now for the dangerously cold weather!
The good news is that the dangerously cold readings will only last a day or two, but still sub-freezing temperatures the days following Christmas before a gradual warm-up ensues heading towards
New Year’s.
