Tifton Animal Control passes new dog tether ordinance
TIFTON, Ga. – A new law in Tifton has become official to protect animals from the summer heat.
Late last week, Tift County Animal Control announced the immediate implementation of a new tether ordinance.
The ruling means any dog can not be locked outside on ropes, chains or any other other means for more than 12 hours.
“Oh… I think it’s a great thing for the state of Georgia. It’s the most humane law that they’ve passed in a while. And, actually it’s for the protection of your sweet little dogs, big dogs, whatever…” said Dena Watson.
“Being a part of the community who sees these animals being abused or neglected, especially as we’re coming up on the summer months. So, they’re hot, without water, without food without shade; so I’m very glad that we’re taking an approach to make sure they’re protected…” said Kayla Myers.
The ordinance says the animal must also be securely attached at least fifteen feet between two stationary objects.
