Tift Regional earns accreditation for OB/GYN residency program
Tifton, Ga. (2/4/26) – The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) has awarded accreditation to Tift Regional Health System’s residency training program for obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN) physicians.
A part of Tift Regional Health System’s Graduate Medical Education, the OB/GYN Residency Program will launch in late June 2027. Tift Regional Health System earned accreditation for its Internal Medicine Residency Program this past September.
“We are so delighted to have earned this second accreditation,” said Kimberly Megow, MD, Chief Quality and Academic Affairs Officer for Southwell. “This comes after months of hard work from our entire team. The aim is to educate and support a diverse group of residents by creating a learning environment centered on skills development, character building, and community engagement.”
The OB/GYN residents will train at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton as well as outpatient clinics in Tifton, Valdosta, and Sylvester.
“Residents will receive a comprehensive education in all aspects of OB/GYN practice, including gynecologic surgery, maternity care, and more,” said Kristin Yates, DO, Program Director. “They will develop competence in women’s health conditions, enabling them to serve as primary physicians for women as well as consultants to other doctors.”
Dr. Yates added that rotations will be structured to provide exposure to all services appropriate for the level of training, both inpatient and outpatient, during the four-year program. Doctors will train alongside experienced clinicians and expand healthcare access in the community.
Tift Regional Health System’s OB/GYN Residency Program will participate in “The Match” during the next recruitment cycle for PGY-1 starting in July 2027 with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and will be registered with the Residency CAS application service.
Dr. Megow said the Tift Regional Health System OB/GYN Residency Program is designed to produce well-trained physicians capable of independently practicing in community-based settings.
“Through strong mentorship and progressive resident responsibility, our residency programs will foster clinical confidence, leadership, and professional growth among all trainees,” Dr. Megow said.
