Tift County High School placed on lockdown after incident involving student

TIFTON, Ga. – “At approximately 10:00 am today, several students at Tift County High School were involved in an altercation in a bathroom that resulted in one student being stabbed. In response to the situation, the school was promptly placed on lockdown to ensure the safety of the students and staff. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were called to the scene, and school staff acted quickly to provide support to the injured student. All Tift County High School parents were notified of the lockdown via the district’s call out system and via email.”

“We can confirm that a suspect, also a student at Tift County High School, is in custody. The weapon involved has been confiscated and no other students were injured during this incident. At this time, we do not have additional information regarding the condition of the injured student.”

“At approximately 11:45 am the lockdown was lifted and parents were notified that the school had resumed normal operations. Parents who wished to check out their child could do so, following normal check out procedures. For students who were not picked up, the instructional day resumed. Procedures were put in place to minimize student movement throughout the building for the remainder of the day, and students were fed lunch in their classrooms to ensure no further escalation as a result of the incident.”
