Tift Co. among 17 alleged double voting cases in GA
TIFTON, Ga. – According to our news partners at Tifton Grapevine Newsletter, the state of Georgia is alleging that someone voted in the 2022 general election in Tift County and also cast an additional ballot in another state.
The Tift County allegation is one of 17 cases of double voting – voting in Georgia and in another state in 2022 – that Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is referring to district attorneys for action.
Bryce A. Johnson, district attorney for the Tifton Judicial Circuit, said late Tuesday that he received a notification about the allegation from the Secretary of State’s office but has not yet received the case file and its details.
“Once I receive the file, we will review to see if any more investigation is required or whether it’s ready to present to the grand jury. We have a new grand jury convening in March, so that will be first opportunity to present,” Johnson told the Tifton Grapevine.
Raffensperger’s office said that “district attorneys will evaluate these case files and pursue indictments where appropriate.”
“One illegal vote cast is too many,” Raffensperger said. “Georgians deserve to have their voice heard fully, not have it diluted by bad actors.”
Besides Tift, the cases of alleged double voting in two states involve records from Barrow, Chatham, Cobb, Douglas, Fannin, Forsyth, Fulton, and Morgan counties.
The allegations of double voting were discovered through Georgia’s membership in the Electronic Registration Information Center, also known as ERIC. The network of 24 states and the District of Columbia shares interstate data to improve the quality of election administration by promoting accurate voter rolls and identifying illegal voting.
ERIC is the best large-scale tool available to identify illegal voting across states, Raffensperger said.
