ALBANY, Ga. – Thronateeska is hosting Dance Out Drugs, a community dance party, Saturday July 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the bricks. Get out, get up, and get moving with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) Educational Foundation’s Youth Dance Instructors, DJ Dollar Bill, and a cross section of local dance studios. The vent is free for attendees and free sweet treats will also be available. Guests will have the opportunity to win prizes like an Artesian Alliance membership, a free Summer Camp, and more. Discover extracurricular opportunities in the region such as dance studios, sports leagues, horseback riding lessons, after school programs, summer camps, scouts, and more. DEA Educational Foundation leaders will give families tools to discuss making wise choices, avoiding and handling drug misuse, and living a healthy lifestyle.

Thronateeska currently houses the DEA’s traveling exhibit, Drugs: Costs and Consequences, which creates the perfect backdrop and timing for Drug Education for teachers and leaders. Experts from the DEA in the fields of drug research, seizures, and education designed this exhibit and continue to make changes to present the most current information. This information has been shared with Thronateeska Educators, giving them some of the most up-to-date information to enhance and provide new information for teachers in the classroom. To register, email or call Angie Jones at ajones@artesianalliance.org or 229.432.6955.

Appropriate for children in fourth grade and up, the exhibit is free for anyone to visit. Drug misuse is a difficult conversation in general and can be increasingly more difficult for parents and children. Drugs: Costs and Consequences offers a platform for families and peers to make conservations easier through the interactive exhibit components and guided tours by exhibit educators. As this exhibit stimulates an important and heavy topic of conversation, visitors are encouraged to decompress by coupling their trip to the DEA Traveling Exhibit with trips to Thronateeska’s Science and History Museum or Planetarium, Flint Riverquarium and Chehaw Park and Zoo. Half-day, full-day and multi-day trips can be scheduled as well. For more information, please visit artesianalliance.org.

The exhibit is part of the educational outreach efforts of the DEA Museum in Arlington, Virginia. The DEA Educational Foundation continues in its long-standing support and coordination of the exhibit, working with the Museum. For more information about the exhibit, please visit drugexhibit.org.
