The Nerd Store now open provides high-quality gaming and vibrant community space
ALBANY, Ga. – A new and exciting store is already making waves in Albany, catering to gaming enthusiasts in the community.
Albany residents are excited to welcome the nerd store, the latest destination for fans of comics, anime, and fantasy role-playing games.
The Nerd Store is dedicated to serving the Albany community by offering high-quality gaming experiences and creating a vibrant community space.
“This originally started out as a dream, probably more than ten years ago. I started going to game shops like this one probably about 29 sometime that’s when I first started college, first started hanging out with gamers that were playing trading card games. Ten years ago, I met my wife. We’ve spent the years enjoying ourselves, enjoying each other. And I have always had a job that’s been stable, but not necessarily one that I have a passion for, but I have a passion for gaming and I’ve passion for the gaming community. I really wanted to make a safe and inclusive space for gamers from all backgrounds. I want to be inclusive for everybody, regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, whatever kind of game you want to play. I want everybody to feel safe and welcome and I figured the best way to do that is to do it myself,” said Daniel Vanoteghem, Co-Owner, The Nerd Store.
Annie Vanoteghem, co-owner of The Nerd Store, discusses the extensive array of products and experiences that the store has to offer.
“So, we wanted to bring a place where people who play tabletop roleplaying games such as Dungeons and Dragons and War Hammer. We will have a space that is large enough, tables that are large enough to do that to accommodate them. We also do things like magic gathering, Pokémon, those kinds of things. We are building our comic book stock, our figurines stock, including the Funko Pops that a lot of people collect. So, people buy, sell, trade, single cards. And, we’re looking forward to doing some events like painting nights for small figurines that you use in these games and just birthday parties and stuff like that,” said Annie Vanoteghem, Co-Owner, The Nerd Store.
Annie Vanoteghem addresses common misconceptions surrounding the term “nerd” and emphasizes the positive attributes associated with it, stating that being a nerd is something to celebrate.
“It’s a fantasy land. A lot of these things are kind of getting out of your everyday life and having a little bit of fun. It’s a really fun form of entertainment and getting into these worlds and building a character. So, it brings a lot of enjoyment and there’s also a lot of imagination that goes into it and mathematics and probability. And, it’s really good for kids who are learning these kinds of things. And, I think it grabs the attention and makes it a place to be, rather than like, “nerds with the tape on their glasses,” or the stigmatized thing. It is cool to be a “nerd,”” said Vanoteghem.
For those wanting to check it out, the nerd store is located at 2610 Dawson Road, Suite 14, in Albany.
