The Importance of Libraries
VALDOSTA, GA -Public libraries have been around since the 1700’s but in the digital age we live in today, are they as relevant as they once were?
CBS 44’s Reporter Cameron Sanders examines the importance of the public library and what the South Georgia Regional Library is doing to remain relevant today…
Many people believe that going to the library and reading physical books was a thing of the past but South Georgia Regional Library simply tells me that’s not true.
“Libraries are still important in this digital age, because of the services we do provide to our community,” said Bernard Bulemu, Assistant Director of Library.
Assistant director Bernard tells me that the libraries create and involve more of the community in South Georgia.
“Community engagement sometimes when your online you can be by yourself but if your here you get to do things with others,” said Bulemu.
The South Georgia Regional Library also has started a reading summer camp for the children of the library…
“We have story times, we’ll have guests coming in to do special story times, and we have wonderful prizes at the end if you read a certain amount,” said Lesley Partridge, Marketing and Communications Director.
The South Georgia Regional Library is open from 9am to 6pm Monday through Thursday and 9:30 am to 5pm on Friday.
