“The Greatest Show Ant” Fire Ant Festival in Ashburn a huge success over the weekend
ASHBURN, Ga. – The streets of Ashburn were filled with food, fun, and festivities as the Fire Ant Festival made its return.
This year’s theme, “The Greatest Show Ant,” brought a circus of excitement to the event, complete with unique attractions, live entertainment, and plenty of community spirit.
“Well, we have a committee: the Fire Ant Committee. We get together and plan out a couple of years in advance so we can get ready and prepare and plan. We tried to be punny and, “The Greatest Show Ant,” just sounded like a great time. It is loosely based on the movie, but is a circus theme,” said Ashley Miller, Executive Director, Ashburn-Turner County Chamber of Commerce.
Visitors from across south Georgia came to Ashburn for a weekend packed with family-friendly fun.
From the giant Fire Ant Maze to art displays, a BBQ cook-off, and the fan-favorite pet parade, there was something for everyone.
Vendors lined the festival streets, showcasing a variety of goods, including one standout booth featuring young entrepreneurs Tyrus and Myla Mosley, who shared their business journey with us.
“I started when I was little. I started with sketches and things like that. But, recently, two years ago, I started going to art classes. I started learning chalk pastels, and that is the medium that I normally use, and a little bit of charcoal, which I mix into my artwork that you see here. And, that’s what I started with,” said Tyrus Mosely, Kid Entrepreneurs.
“So, around Christmas, during 2023, my grandma got me a bracelet kit. So, I have been making bracelets ever since then. It has been like a year since I have gotten serious about it, and I have been making bracelets ever since,” said Myla Mosely, Kid Entrepreneurs.
In addition to their handmade arts and jewelry, Tyrus and Myla Mosley also offer a family-friendly card game through their family business, the Mosley 6.
“So, it all started with our dad. Our dad encouraged us to create a card game to ask questions, to get to know stuff about each other that we didn’t already know. So, the entire idea of it is to get people to connect with each other. Since technology is taking over, people are losing conversation. So, what we are trying to do is bring back conversation with these cards,” said Tyrus.
If you missed this year’s festivities, don’t worry – the Fire Ant Festival will return next year on March 27th and 28th, promising more fun, food, and entertainment for all!
You can catch the full festival broadcast Sunday, April 6th at 1 pm on WSST.
