Synovus Donates $100,000 to Support Childcare Facility at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center
Americus, GA | October 6, 2025 – Phoebe Sumter Medical Center (PSMC) is one step closer to addressing a critical need for its workforce thanks to a generous donation from Synovus Bank. In September, Synovus presented a $100,000 check through its Here Matters Donor Advised Fund to the Phoebe Sumter Foundation in support of a new on-campus childcare facility, Family Tree Child Development Center.
The Family Tree at Phoebe Sumter will provide convenient, high-quality childcare for hospital employees and play a vital role in recruiting and retaining young professionals. The facility will initially serve approximately 50 children, with plans to expand to meet the growing needs of both Phoebe employees and local families.
“Investing in childcare is investing in our people. This new facility will help ease the burden for parents working in demanding healthcare roles, giving them peace of mind while ensuring we continue to provide excellent care to our community,” said Katherine Council, Phoebe Sumter Foundation Director.
Modeled after the successful Family Tree childcare program at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, the Sumter facility will be located on PSMC’s 40-acre campus and is projected to open in 2027. The program will operate with full state certification and will mirror the proven operational model that has benefited countless Phoebe families in Albany.
“At Synovus, we believe strong communities are built when families thrive. Supporting the Family Tree project is a meaningful way for us to help healthcare professionals balance their careers and their families while also strengthening the local workforce,” said Emory Parker, Synovus Americus Market President.
“The Here Matters Fund is about investing in projects that make a lasting difference. We’re proud to partner with Phoebe Sumter to ensure that children and families in our region have the support they need,” said Pam Simmons, Synovus Albany Market President.
Phoebe Sumter leaders emphasized that the hospital is prepared to staff and equip the facility once construction is complete. The $100,000 gift from Synovus will go directly toward construction costs, helping make the vision of Family Tree Sumter a reality.
“Phoebe Sumter is committed to being more than just a hospital, we are a partner in the lives of our employees and neighbors. We are grateful to Synovus for believing in this mission and for helping us meet a need that will strengthen families and improve the future of healthcare in Sumter County,” said Carlyle Walton, Phoebe Sumter Medical Center President.
