Suspect dies in Albany Police custody
ALBANY, Ga. – On Saturday night, Albany Police Department (APD) issued the following statement regarding the death of a suspect while in police custody:
“On April 13, 2024, officers were investigating multiple criminal trespass incidents in the 2200 block of Nottingham Way around 5:46 pm.
While in custody, the suspect stopped breathing, life saving measures were administered and EMS personnel were called.
The suspect was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
We’ll update you once new information becomes available.”
In a Monday morning press conference, APD Chief Michael Persley says there was no use of force in the apprehension of the suspect.
The Dougherty County coroner identified the suspect as 41-year-old, Robert Joseph Carver, of Albany. An autopsy will be done on Wednesday, April 17.
