Suspect charged in officer-involved shooting during apartment standoff

ALBANY, Ga. – On May 5, 2025, officers responded to 205 Slater King Apartments in reference to a disorderly conduct incident involving a gun, around 5:26 P.M. David Edmonds Jr. (25), was in a physical altercation with his neighbor’s boyfriend before officers arrived on scene. The neighbor called police and once officers arrived, they made contact with Edmonds. Edmonds was inside his apartment with his girlfriend and two children when he began shooting. Corporal Alexander Price was injured by gunfire as he and several officers attempted to get Edmonds to come out the residence. No other officers were injured by the gunfire.

Our hostage negotiation team successfully persuaded David to allow Cpl. Price and other officers to escape for medical treatment. Cpl. Price was taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Shortly after, the SWAT Team apprehended Edmonds outside the apartment once he surrendered. Edmonds was transported to the Dougherty County Police Department for an interview with APD investigators. Edmonds admitted to shooting at the officers and stated his intention to expose corruption on television.

Edmonds was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer (four counts), Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Crime, Battery, and Terroristic Threats. He was taken to the Dougherty County Jail.

Cpl. Price is currently in stable condition and recovering from his injuries.

On behalf of the Albany Police Department and Chief Michael Persley: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Corporal Price and all the officers involved in the recent officer-involved shooting. During this incredibly difficult time, we stand with our law enforcement community and the families affected by this tragedy. We encourage everyone in our community to remain vigilant, support one another, and prioritize safety. Together, we will get through this with strength and unity.”
