Surviving Our Storm women’s transitional house
BACONTON, Ga. – A local non-profit group is getting ready to open a new living space for women, geared towards providing them shelter while they get their lives back on track.
Down a quiet road in Baconton, Michelle Anduze and Martha Thompson are getting ready to furnish a new transitional home for women recovering from substance abuse…
They’re calling it “Surviving Our Storm.”
“…This building was kind of dropped in our laps. And, so, this is a 16-bed, women’s sober living, structured environment. And, you can stay here for 6 to 18 months,” said Michele Anduze, Co-founder, Surviving Our Storm.
“Women have nowhere to go. So, this is very important for women because why we all need a place to recover. So, this is something for them to have a place to come to, to be a safe environment, to recover,” said Martha Thompson, Co-founder, Surviving Our Storm.
Michele and Martha have been renovating an old home in Baconton with the goal of providing women a place to stay for up to a year and a half…
All the while helping them get back on their feet through various programs.
While we won’t show what the exterior of this facility looks like, it will be a major help to the women staying here as they rebuild their lives.
“I think it’ll be very good for women when they first come in. That way, they can’t just up and leave and go somewhere and do things that they shouldn’t be doing. I think they have enough time to spend to get to know themselves out here to mend, to be with nature,” said Thompson.
The road to reintegrating into society is certainly not easy.
It’s a struggle Michele has been through, and is stronger for it.
“I know how important this is for women to come here and get to know themselves and get to restructure and reframe their lives. We’re going to offer a lot here. And, that’s the beauty of this thing,” said Anduze.
Martha and Michele are excited to be opening up “Surviving Our Storm” and they can’t wait to make a change in a few women’s lives.
And… Martha and Michele tell us they’re hoping to cut the ribbon on the new facility in mid-November.
