Structure fire leaves one man dead, another seriously injured in Thomasville

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – According to Thomas County Fire Rescue, a structure fire has claimed the life of one man and seriously injured a second man in Thomasville.

Around 1:20 a.m., early Sunday morning fire crews responded to the report of a structure fire at the corner of Singletary Road and US Highway 84 with possibly two people and a pet inside, according to Fire Chief Chris Jones.

Firefighters and the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the scene.

One man managed to exit the residence and was transported to a burn center “with significant injuries,” the chief said.

The second man, later identified as as 78-year-old Charles Gilbreath of Thomas County, was pronounced deceased on the scene.

As of Monday afternoon, the cause of the fire is unknown, and remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
