Storm shelters now open in South Georgia for Florida evacuees ahead of Hurricane Milton

ALBANY, Ga. -There are several shelter openings across South Georgia for residents evacuating from Florida due to Hurricane Milton.

These locations include:

  • Frog Pond Farm in Americus
  • Cordele Motor Speedway
  • Cordele First Church
  • Thornton Community Center opened at 12 p.m. today in Albany

There are RV spaces available at:

  • Exchange Club Campground in Albany
  • Peachtree Park Campground in Doerun
  • Spence Field Campgrounds in Moultrie
  • Near the Donalsonville Fire Department

GEMA is advising Florida evacuees to call ahead and check availability due to ongoing recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene.

Local officials are urging South Georgians to welcome evacuees with patience as interstates and highways will face traffic delays.
