Statement released following heavy police presence in Dawson; GBI investigating
DAWSON, Ga. – The Dawson Police Department released the following statement regarding heavy police presence on Thursday:
“On 07/17/2025 at 1:15 pm law enforcement agencies including the Terrell County Sheriff’s Department, and the U.S. Marshals Office served a warrant for a wanted person at a residence in the Northeast Augusta area. The subject was wanted for an aggravated assault on a peace officer. As part of an ongoing investigation, officers did execute the arrest warrant at the designated residence. Tragically, upon entering the premises, they discovered that the individual in question was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
“In light of this discovery, the scene has been secured by law enforcement, and officials have confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The agencies involved are diligently conducting a thorough investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding the individual’s death. Local residents are advised to remain clear of the area to allow law enforcement to perform their duties without interruption. The Sylvester GBI has been notified and will be the investigating agency.”

“The deceased suspect from today’s incident has been identified as 30 year old Jarmmal Cox. Cox who is originally from Dawson but now has an address listed in Hogansville Georgia. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating this incident. There are no further details at this time.”
